There are basically two types of analysis which can be conducted upon collected residues. The first type of analysis is conducted by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) upon residues which have been collected on sticky metal stubs. The second type of analysis is conducted by atomic absorption (AA) analysis upon residues which have been collected on cotton-tipped swabs. Be sure to check with your forensic laboratory to determine which type of analysis they conduct. Through Crime Scene Supply, we offer six types of Gunshot Residue (GSR) Collection Kits: one for analysis by AA, two for analysis by SEM, one combination kit containing the materials necessary for both AA and SEM, and a Surface Residue Collection Kit. The SEM stubs are provided with a high quality conductive carbon adhesive disk. Should you prefer, a GSR Collection Kit can be custom designed to fit the needs of your agency.
